SAN FRANCISCO, February 15, 2022 – Camus Energy, a leading provider of grid management software, today announced the appointment of Dylan Cutler as its Head of Product.
Cutler leads the product team responsible for developing Camus’ advanced grid management software platform. He brings world-leading expertise in the optimization of distributed energy resources (DERs) and the integration of DERs into electricity markets. He is working in tandem with Camus’ customer success team to ensure Camus’ utility and load-serving customers can harness local resources for dynamic grid management. He reports directly to the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Astrid Atkinson.
“Camus Energy was founded to transform how our electric grids are managed – enabling the shift from centralized, fossil fuel resources to local, zero-carbon resources. Our deep understanding of the technology needed to manage complex distributed systems allows us to deliver software that operators can use to incorporate local resources into their core grid management strategies,” said Atkinson. “Dylan’s robust background in optimizing DER dispatch via price signals, in addition to his expertise managing large technical teams, will be tremendous assets as Camus prepares to launch distribution-level energy markets.”
Cutler brings more than a decade of experience leading technical development of distributed energy resource optimization models for system needs and market participation. Before joining Camus, he was the Senior Research Engineer at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), a premier energy research institution affiliated with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Cutler led technical development of NREL’s REopt™ model for DER optimization, served as section manager and principal investigator for various DOE and industry funded projects, and authored dozens of peer-reviewed publications. Before NREL, Cutler co-founded and ran a construction company focused on energy efficient and sustainable building design.
“After more than a decade of research and commercialization of DER optimization models, I jumped at the opportunity to join a world-leading technical team helping grid operators effectively integrate local resources,” said Cutler. “With Camus’ software platform, utilities are lowering energy costs and improving operational flexibility by incorporating local renewables and demand-side resources into their power supply portfolios. I look forward to supporting Camus’ continued growth as more utilities seek to capture these benefits.”
